Grandma's Pasta Sauce

A family sauce recipe from my great grandmother from Italy.

  1. Puree the 6 cans of whole tomatoes in a blender and put in stock pot. Start heating the pot to bring to a simmer.
  2. Add water to thin out the sauce to help prevent sticking.
  3. Mince the onion and garlic and add to sauce, add in bay leaves and cloves.
  4. Sprinkles seasoning across the top of the sauce, add salt and pepper on top then stir in.
  5. Add any meats to the sauce (sausage and meatballs) as well the oils and juices from them.
  6. Boil for an hour, then remove meats.
  7. Add tomato paste, cook for another hour stirring constantly. Don’t scrape the bottom.
  8. If desired, add meats back in, shut off stove and serve with pasta.
